Plans revealed for 300 apartment scheme in Leeds
Emerging plans have been revealed for a major new apartment scheme in Leeds which would rise to 14 storeys and be located about one kilometre from the city centre.Doone Silver Kerr Architects has submitted pre-application plans to Leeds City Plans Panel to build a new apartment complex on land off Flax Place and Richmond Street. The proposal, which involves the re-use of brownfield land and a major investment in a significant site on the East Street corridor, would create a predominantly residential development across two stepped blocks of eight to 14 storeys in height. The current plans suggest that there would be 11 studio, 147 one-bed, 130 two-bed and 12 three-bedroomed apartments.Space for a small convenience store would also be created as part of the plans. The site would be within the Saxton Gardens area of Leeds and less than a mile from Leeds Station and the city centre. The surrounding area has undergone a significant change in character with a high number of conversions and new build residential schemes replacing former industrial land. The emerging Leeds Aire Valley Area Action Plan also identifies the site as appropriate for housing use.The scheme architect has submitted the plans on behalf of the developer Neighbour which is proposing to operate the building as a build to rent scheme. As part of the hearing, the designers are looking for a response as to whether members of the planning panel believe the principles of the development are appropriate and if they support the scheme.
