Green light for affordable housing scheme
A new affordable housing development looks set to be built on the site of a former school in Newcastle after plans for the project were approved.The proposals are earmarked for land at Chapel House where part of the Parkway School once stood, before being demolished in 2004.Up to 53 homes will be built for the elderly, comprising a single block of sixteen one-bed and sixteen two-bed assisted living apartments, five two-bed assisted living bungalows, eight two-bed assisted living lower Tyneside flats and eight one-bed upper Tyneside flats.The project is likely to create or support jobs, with a report drawn up for Newcastle City Council’s planning committee stating that targeted recruitment “can by way of a training and employment plan tied to the application by way of a section 106 agreement/planning condition”.It has been determined that the development will meet an “identified housing need for older people”.
