Sheffield regeneration scheme takes step forward
A major regeneration scheme in Sheffield city centre has taken a step forward after the project developer signed a deal with a student accommodation provider.Litton Buccleuch, a joint venture between Bakewell-based Litton Property Group and Edinburgh-based Buccleuch Property, has signed a deal with a student accommodation provider to operate the building once development has been completed.Buccleuch Property represents the commercial property interests of the Duke of Buccleuch, one of the largest private landowners in Europe. The multimillion-pound project would be created on the site of the former Stokes Tiles Centre at the junctions of Moore Street, Fitzwilliam Street and Thomas Street off The Moor. The plans would create more than 800 student bedrooms, shops and cafes in a 12 storey scheme. The development is based around four connected blocks providing flats with retail and cafes on the ground floors.A planning application is due to be submitted to Sheffield City Council soon and subject to planning approval, construction is anticipated to start in May 2018 taking about 24 months to complete in time for the new student intake in autumn 2020.
