New housing development planned for Finnieston
Plans have been submitted for a new housing development in Finnieston. Glasgow West Housing Association (GWHA) wants to create a 57-unit complex on a vacant site at the junction of Argyle Street and St Vincent Street. The space is bound by Breadalbane Street and Dover Street and once housed a tenement court and it is hoped the new build would bring together the Finnieston and Anderston areas. The properties would be a mix of wheelchair-accessible one, two and three bedrooms, with 35 allocated to social housing and 22 mid market private rentals.A commercial unit would also be created at street level and around 10 per cent of the homes would be designed to be adapted for people with disabilities in the future. The proposals are the latest phase in a long running plan to build on the site, opposite a £60million Sanctuary Scotland Housing Association regeneration scheme on Argyle Street, which has been in the pipeline since 2004.Planning permission was previously granted to GWHA in 2008 but the new application is based on updated designs. GWHA has held three public consultations with local residents over the past couple of years and have reported “positive responses”.If approved the development would have no parking facilities but each property would have bicycle storage space in the basement. A statement contained in a report by Coltart Earley Architects which will go before members of the planning committee highlights improvements to the public realm if the plans are given the green light.
