Further improvements lined up for Durham Tees Valley Airport area
More than £1m worth of additional improvements are set to take place around Durham Tees Valley Airport as part of a masterplan for the site.Plans were approved in March for works on land to the north of the airport, including the building of 350 homes and a local services centre for use by retailers, financial and professional services firms, restaurants and other leisure facilities. However, as part of the granting of approval it was deemed that a Section 106 agreement be drawn up on benefits for the local community.Details of this have now been confirmed and include the airport’s majority shareholder Peel Group making £1.2m worth of contributions towards the expansion of St George’s Church Primary School in Middleton St George, highways improvements on the A66, and a range of more general improvements to the likes of street lighting, bus stops, footpaths, cycle routes and sports pitches.Provision will also be made for affordable housing, either within the planned 350-home scheme, via a contribution of £1.8m or a combination of both.
