Historic hotel transformation plans in
A planning application to breathe new life into luxury Warwickshire hotel Studley Castle, which dates back to the 1830s, has been lodged. The submission comes 18 months after the venue’s owner Warner Leisure Hotels closed its doors for the potential £30m revamp. The documents, filed with Stratford District Council, propose an extension of the hotel, taking its room numbers from 57 to 210. They also comprise plans for a new pool, gym, studio and treatment rooms. As part of the scheme, a four-storey extension added in the 1930s will be demolished and the main house will be refurbished.A new three-storey wing will provide more than 150 bedrooms while the stables, which are currently derelict, will be restored to provide 23 guest bedrooms over two floors. The grade II-listed Studley Castle has been closed since March 2016 and will reopen in 2018 subject to the scheme being approved. The hotel currently has 57 bedrooms and can accommodate about 100 guests. It also has 11 conference rooms with space for 531 people. The main house exterior will be restored to look as it did before 1905 if the go-ahead if granted.Studley Castle was once owned by the Lyttleton family and between 1903 and the 1960s was used as Studley College.
