Futuristic plan for popular Devon pool
A multi-million pound investment to improve leisure centres across Devon has been outlined – and they include a major makeover with futuristic plans for one swimming pool.Ivybridge and Tavistock are among the centres which will be revamped as part of an £8 million, three-year programme.The improvement plans are now on display for viewing at each leisure centre.Fusion Lifestyle, in partnership with South Hams District and West Devon Borough Council, will kick-start the investment by improving five Devon Leisure Centres after it agreed a 25-year contract last year.It will see changes to the leisure centres studios, gyms, soft play, cafes and changing facilities. Ivybridge Leisure Centre is set to have a major makeover with plans showcasing a six-lane swimming pool with a sun-deck land a state-of-the-art, glazed, retractable roof.An extended spin studio and new café are included in the plans while the fitness gym, studio and squash courts will be refurbished.New poolside changing rooms, with lockers, showers and changing cubicles will be included. A new steam room and sauna will be installed in the centre as well as a new entrance and reception.The work is due to start early 2018, subject to planning permission and should take just over a year to complete. The work in Tavistock is due to start at the end of this year and will take nine-months to complete.The changing facilities will have a full refurbishment – accessibility to the toilets will be improved, along with family changing cubicles, lockers, showers and vanity areas.Dartmouth Leisure Centre, Quayside Leisure Centre in Kingsbridge and Parklands Leisure Centre in Okehampton will all receive improvements.Fusion lifestyle is the largest independent charity operating community sports, fitness and leisure centres in the country.As a charity, income is reinvested in improving and developing its services and facilities.
