Go-ahead given for Derby student scheme
An application to build more than 300 student flats over two blocks in the centre of Derby has been approved. The scheme, which was debated at a meeting on Thursday, earmarked land at the junction of Cathedral Road, Willow Row and Walker Lane.Submitted to the authority by applicant Cartwright Pickard, the two blocks will be built on a site that has been vacant for a number of years following the removal of temporary units which provided healthcare. The council approved the erection of a mixed use development at the site, comprising retail units and offices, in 2008. However, work never went ahead and the permission has now lapsed.
