Approval expected for city centre apartment tower block
Plans to transform a car park of a four-star hotel into a major residential and commercial development in the centre of Birmingham have been recommended for approval.Applicant Ace Sino Group is bidding to secure permission to construct 228 apartments in a building varying between six and 17 storeys as well as six ground-floor retail units by the Park Regis hotel in Broad Street.Planning officers at Birmingham City Council have recommended that the proposal for the car park is approved, subject to a legal agreement being reached, at a meeting on Thursday 28 September.The site previously housed the Five Ways Shopping Centre which has been demolished.If approved, a total of 117 of the flats will have one bedroom while 105 will have two and six will have three.
