One northbound and one southbound tunnel, each approximately 3.2km in length, tying in to the Kennington Loop near Kennington Underground Station;
Over-run tunnels to the south west of Battersea Station;
Cross passages between the running tunnels;
Two new permanent ventilation and intervention shafts, located at Kennington Park and Kennington Green;
All work necessary in stations, tunnels and shafts to provide infrastructure capability as required by the client, and;
Four additional cross passages at the existing Kennington Station between the Charing Cross and Bank branch platforms (two between each pair of platforms) to relieve an increase in passenger flows as a result of the NLE.

Design Responsibilities
The subcontractor shall continue design from RIBA 4C onwards. The subcontractor shall provide all the RIBA stage 5 of the design included in the Pro-forma 5 which covers the MEP design-related activities. This design stage covers the on-site installation of services and their commissioning, to take the project to the state where handover can occur including but not limited to:
Final fan and pump sizing will be carried out by the Mechanical Installation Contractor to suit his construction drawings and equipment manufacturers certified drawings, technical data and specifications at RIBA stage 5. Consultant will approve the final selection done by the subcontractor.
The subcontractor is responsible to provide the elements required to allow any Fire Stopping associated with their works and to be designed in accordance with LU standard: Fire Systems Reference Manual Part 1 (G-7320), 2 (G-7321), 3 (G-7322), & 4 (G-7323).
Installation Drawings – Drawings based on the technical design drawings or co-ordinated working drawings with the primary purpose of defining that information needed by the tradesmen on site to install the works. The main features of installation drawings should be as per coordinated working drawings, plus: Allowances should be made for inclusion of all supports and fixings necessary to install the works. The drawing should make allowances for installation details provided from manufacturers’ drawings. Allowances should be made for plant and equipment. This includes any alternatives to the designer’s original specified option that have been chosen.
Builders Work Details – Drawing to show requirements for building works necessary to facilitate the installation of the engineering services.
Manufacturers Drawings – Drawings prepared by manufacturers, fabricators or suppliers for a particular project, and which are unique to that project. Examples include drawings for ductwork, pre-fabricated pipework, sprinkler systems, control and switchgear panels and associated internal wiring, pre-fabricated plant, customised plant and equipment.
As-Built Model – This model shows all as-built engineering systems, components and equipment. All pipes, ducts and cable objects contain data about their sizes, flow rates, flow direction, voltages (as appropriate), and the model should include access information for equipment maintenance
and replacement. It is analogous to the level of detail in BSRIA Record drawings. Typical object parameters to include along with geometry at this stage would include: Model numbers and serial numbers of actual components and equipment installed, Results from commissioning works (flow-rates or set points for all control equipment), Links to stored plant and equipment details (specification, manufacturers details, operation and maintenance information)
Record Drawings – Drawings showing the building and services installations as installed at the date of practical completion. The main features of the record drawings should be as follows: The drawings should be to a scale not less than that of the installation drawings. Locations of all the mechanical, electrical and public health systems and components installed including ducts, pipes, cables, busbars, plant items, pumps, fans, valves, dampers, control devices, strainers, terminals, electrical switchgear and components, security and fire sensors and control equipment. The drawing should be labelled with appropriate pipe, duct and cable sizes, pressures and flow rates. The drawings should have marked on them positions of access points for operating and maintenance purposes. The drawings should not be dimensioned unless the inclusion of a dimension is considered necessary for location.
Digital Engineering requirements
The following procedure that will be undertaken, the Subcontractor will fully engage in this process:
Step 1. Establish BIM & Digital Engineering procurement packages – This package has been identified as a ‘Green’ package as set out within the BIM & Digital Engineering Procurement Readiness – Step Guidance.
Step 2. Introduction and Requirements Letter – An Introduction letter outlining the BIM requirements on the NLE project outlining key project facts and requirements. E.g. Level 2 BIM project, LU CAD Standards, PAS 1192-2, BS 1192 etc to be issued. This letter found in the DE procurement documents folder – 15.13 Introduction and Requirements – Mandatory (GREEN) Packages.
Step 3. Supplier BIM & Digital Engineering Competence and Capability Assessment Form – Issue the ‘Supplier BIM and Digital Engineering Competence and Capability Assessment’ to invited parties, this template found in the DE procurement documents folder – 15.13.10. Supplier BIM and Digital Engineering Competence and Capability Assessment
Step 4. Level of Detail Tables – BIM Execution Plan – Confirm LOD tables are completed and agreed with the Design Manager ensuring there is a clear understanding between Mott MacDonald’s scope and our supply chain scope – Completed by the Design Manager with input and assistance from the BIM/DE Lead
Step 5. Trade Contractor Level of Detail Table – The project Digital Engineering (BIM) requirements need to be detailed within the tender documentation for each particular trade contractor package. These are extracted from the agreed Level of Detail tables. These tables are custom to suit each packages. They are found in the DE procurement documents folder – 15.13.9 Trade Contractor Level of Detail
Step 6. – BIM Execution Plan (BEP), Employers Information Requirements (EIR) & Standards – All documents and standards listed with in 15.13 Introduction and Requirements – Mandatory (GREEN) Packages shall be included with the ITT. Consult the BIM/DE Lead to ensure no pending versions of the BEP are due to be issued. This is filed on Asite – Northern Line Extension1 Line Wide5 Design5.8 Other Documents (Design)- BIM Execution Plan (Ref: FLO-N001-2360000-PMG-PLN-00004) and in the DE procurement documents folder – 15.13.2 FLO-N001-2360000-PMG-PLN-00004 – BIM Execution Plan
Step 7. CIC Protocol – Where possible, LOR intends to adopt and use the BIM Protocol published by the Construction Industry Council to reflect BIM Responsibilities within contracts. This document can be found in the DE procurement documents folder – 15.13.11. CIC BIM Protocol.
Step 8. Prepare and send ITT submissions – Prepare ITT documentation, including items in Steps 2 – 7.
Step 9. Reviewing and assessing ITT submissions – Received BIM submission to be jointly reviewed by the BIM/DE lead and design manager and scored correctly.
