Heriot-Watt University secures planning for new £14m Discovery and Innovation Centre
Heriot-Watt University has secured planning permission to build a new £14 million flagship Discovery and Innovation Centre at Riccarton Campus.The 57,000 sq ft development will deliver two teaching blocks on either side of an atrium, bringing together the mathematics, engineering, physical sciences and computer science faculties.Glasgow-based Bowmer & Kirkland will build the facility in partnership with civil engineering group Atkins.The Discovery and Innovation Centre, designed by Sheppard Robson, will become the university’s flagship building, creating a ‘discovery laboratory’ which will be “transformative for education, industry and how the world approaches its problem solving”.Work on the new centre is expected to be complete by early 2019.
