McAleer & Rushe to build Brum student tower
Contractor McAleer & Rushe has been lined up to deliver a high-rise student accommodation scheme next to Birmingham’s city council offices on the edge of the historic Gun Quarter.The Lancaster Circus student housing scheme will consist of three blocks rising from 9 to 24 storeys and provide 0ver 1,000 beds in a mix of studios and clusters of 5-7 rooms.Consultant WSP has just submitted the plans to redevelop the car park site for joint venture developer Lench Trustand ES Lancaster Birmingham.Designs by architect Urban Innovations will see the lower 9 storey-building clad in brick with the other two towers clad in a mix of dark grey and black metal panelled facade that help to disguise the location of the windows.Work is expected to start early next summer on the 26-month project.
