New Shoreham office scheme set for approval
Plans to develop new offices on a car park at a prominent gateway site in Shoreham-By-Sea have been recommended for approval.Adur District Council is behind plans for the former car park of the demolished Adur Civic Centre on Ham Road. The proposed new development consists of a four-storey commercial building which will provide about 25,000 sq ft of lettable floor space alongside car parking and landscaping.Plugging the current gap on Ham Road between Glyndebourne Court and Dunelm Mill, the proposed building has the capacity to support up to 250 employees. It is proposed to use a palette of traditional materials to clad the new building, and create the architecture reminiscent of office buildings. Brick is a prevalent material in the local area and has been chosen as the main cladding material.Despite 13 letters of objection, the planning application has been recommended for approval ahead of a committee meeting next week.Subject to planning permission being granted, construction is expected to get underway at the start of 2018 with the project timetabled to take 56 weeks.Companies working on the scheme include Stride Treglowan, Lyons O’Neill, Mott MacDonald, Willmott Dixon and HNW Architects. The council vacated the Adur Civic Centre in 2013 and is also committed to redeveloping that site.
