Plans in for 15-storey student development
Plans have been submitted for a multimillion-pound regeneration scheme in Sheffield city centre which would create 850 rooms for students across four buildings, the tallest of which would be 15 storeys tall.Litton Buccleuch, a joint venture between Bakewell-based Litton Property Group and Edinburgh-based Buccleuch Property, is behind the plans for the former Stokes Tiles Centre site, which sits at the junctions of Moore Street, Fitzwilliam Street and Thomas Street off The Moor.Buccleuch Property represents the commercial property interests of the Duke of Buccleuch, one of the largest private landowners in Europe.The scheme will be split into four interlinked blocks ranging from the 15-storey Block A at the south?eastern corner of the site down to the more modest four-storey Block C, which fronts onto Thomas Street.The site would have 395 studio apartments, 33 two-bedroom apartments and 417?12 bed cluster apartments, providing a total of 850 beds.Subject to planning approval, construction is anticipated to start in May 2018, taking about 24 months to complete in time for the new student intake in autumn 2020.A 1,660 sq ft retail unit will also be provided on the ground floor of Block B.In August, Litton Buccleuch signed a deal with a student accommodation provider to operate the building once development has been completed.
