Historic Newport offices to become flats
Gloucester Chambers, a grade II-listed former solicitors office in Newport, looks set to be turned into 16 flats.The building sits on the corner of Skinner Street and High Street in the city centre and will be turned into a mixture of affordable one- and two-bedroom flats after planning permission was secured last week.The site was first completed and opened in 1891 by Newport architect Benjamin Lawrence for local solicitors Llwellyn and Moore and sits in Newport’s Town Centre Conservation Area.Once completed, all of the flats will be owned and managed by social housing provider Pobl Group.The flats will be situated on the upper floors of the building with the ground floor retail units untouched.Pobl Group is involved with supported living projects including another currently under construction on Commercial Road in Newport.
