Plans in for printing press manufacturing site redevelopment

The site of a former printing press manufacturing facility in Otley is set to be redeveloped as a care home and retail units under newly-submitted plans.Norwood Homes (Westgate) has lodge an application with Leeds City Council for the Ashfield Works site, off Westgate.The application divides the site into three areas. Proposals for the area fronting onto the River Wharfe include the demolition of the fire damaged buildings and construction of a 33,000 sq ft, 66-bed care home with communal facilities landscaped gardens.The area to the north of Westgate is currently occupied by the remaining Ashfield Works structures. The southern half of the print machine manufacturing buildings are set to be retained and converted to provide about 23,000 sq ft of retail space.A number of other buildings on the site will also be converted for commercial use and new retail units will also be built fronting onto Westgate.A total of 122 car parking spaces will be provided to support the retail and care home elements of the scheme.The remaining land, part of which is currently in use as a car park, will be redeveloped to provide another retail unit, six residential cottages and a car parking.
