Green light for Liverpool apartment schemes

Proposals to build more than 300 apartments across two separate schemes on either side of Liverpool city centre have secured the green light.Liverpool City Council’s planning committee has approved Borden Properties’ full planning application to transform 56 Norfolk Street and land bordered by Jamaica Street in the Baltic Triangle. The NS Architects-designed scheme involves demolishing the existing warehouse facilities onsite and constructing a scheme rising up to eight storeys high with 126 student apartments and two ground-floor commercial units.The application as originally submitted proposed a ten-storey block with 171 homes but this since has been scaled back following discussions with planning officers.Councillors also waved through YPG Devon House’s full planning application to demolish an existing warehouse at 33 Devon Street in the Islington area and construct a Smith Young-designed residential scheme of between eight and ten storeys in height. It would feature 208 student studios and two ground-floor commercial units.In August 2017, the committee approved an application for a similar scheme with 218 student studios on the same site. However, the applicant did not enter into the legal agreement at the time and instead opted to amend the proposal by removing ten studios.Both schemes were recommended for approval by planning officers.
