£17m arts centre project given multimillion-pound boost
An extra £4.2m funding boost has been given to a £17m redevelopment project of Warwick Arts Centre.The National Lottery funding from Arts Council England has been handed to the 20:20 capital project.Project bosses have said that by October 2020, Warwick Arts Centre will be a redeveloped ‘cultural and creative centre for the region’ which will be at the forefront of Coventry’s year as City of Culture 2021.Warwick Arts Centre’s 20:20 Project started in October 2017 with a phase one maintenance programme already underway, refreshing, renewing and redeveloping the foyers and theatres and re-opening in July 2018.This latest capital funding kick starts phase two of the project which will start in October 2018 and will see the demolition of the cinema and Mead Gallery and create a new building to house three new digital auditoria and a large ground floor gallery.
