Broadmarsh redevelopment plans set for green light

The latest stage of the Broadmarsh regeneration scheme in Nottingham, which includes plans for a new multi-storey car park, bus station, retail units and an education hub, has been recommended for approval.Nottingham City Council is behind the project and the plans, drawn up by Leonard Design Architects, are set to be voted on by the authority’s planning committee next week (21 February 2018).If approved, the car park will feature an 11-bay bus station on the lower ground floor and a number of commercial units, as well as a total of 1,373 parking spaces.A separate plan by Nottingham College for an education hub on the site, which is known as Broadmarsh East, has also been tipped for the go-ahead.The City Hub would be a maximum of six-storeys and would provide employment for about 200 full-time staff, 140 trainees and space for about 1,562 students.Demolition of the old car park started in September 2017.The council has said the overall scheme, including a revamped Broadmarsh shopping centre, would boost the local economy by £1.1bn per year, create 2,900 jobs and attract three million more annual visitors.Planning permission has already been granted for the major refurbishment of the shopping centre.
