Discount retailer lodges Milton Keynes plans

A discount supermarket chain has lodged plans to build a branch at a mixed-use development in Milton Keynes.Brooklands, formerly known as the ‘East Expansion Area’ of Milton Keynes, was earmarked as a site for significant mixed-use development in the town’s 2005 local plan. Hybrid plans featuring more than 2,500 homes were approved two years later.A reserved matters application for Brooklands Square was given the green light in 2015, with a Sainsbury’s supermarket set to open in winter 2018. There will also be space for a gym, nursery and retail and commercial occupiers.Lidl has submitted an application to build a new supermarket on land at the junction of Fen Street and Countess Way, located within the main Brooklands area to the south east of Brooklands Square.If approved the store will measure almost 22,800 sq ft and the development will also feature 149 car parking spaces, six motorcycle bays and 11 cycle spaces.The application was submitted by GVA on behalf of Lidl UK.
