Details agreed for £800m Salford masterplan

Details of a ‘hugely ambitious’ masterplan designed to create a district near Salford’s MediaCityUK and transform the city’s university and surrounding areas has been agreed.The proposals set out a vision 20-year to enhance connections with nearby neighbourhoods and communities, tapping in to the area’s potential to be an “unrivalled place to learn, live, work and visit”.The joint approach between the University of Salford and Salford City Council will link education with local industry, arts, culture, heritage and residential across 240 acres of space.Proposed is a £800m worth of investment across 2,500 homes, 300,000 sq ft of student accommodation, 1.6 million sq ft of commercial innovation floorspace for industrial growth sectors, 1.1 million sq ft of educational floorspace, a hotel and conferencing suite, 2,000 car parking spaces across multi-storey sites and a new school, among other features.Designed by 5plus Architects, the masterplan identifies three zones of investment: the Adelphi and Crescent neighbourhood; Peel Park and Frederick Road; and the Frederick Road North Industrial Collaboration Zone (ICZ).Further details of the masterplan will be showcased at MIPIM.
