York Central plans revealed
A plan to build thousands of homes and major commercial space next to York Railway Station, which has been 25 years in the making, has been revealed.The York Central scheme, which is expected to create 6,500 jobs, was announced at global property expo MIPIMThe 111-acre site, which sits next to the train station, would also include 1.76 million sq ft of commercial space.Network Rail and Homes England, the major land owners, are behind the scheme alongside City of York Council and the National Railway Museum.The plan was outlined by Mary Weastell, chief executive of City of York Council, and Tasmin Hart-Jones, York Central project manager at Homes England.The site, if given planning approval, will be designated a UK Housing Zone and an Enterprise Zone and will also include a new western entrance to the station.
