Plans submitted for caravan manufacturing facility

Plans have been lodged to build a new facility for the manufacture of static caravans and mobile homes on a prominent estate in Hull.Ultimate Leisure Homes, a part of the family-owned international Griftdijk Group established for over 50 years, has submitted an application to Hull City Council for development on three plots at the Burma Drive industrial estate.The company was supported in its application by architects’ practice Ralgreen and Bytlung Consultancy as project manager and structural engineer.The plots covered by the application have recently been created as part of an extension to Burma drive to develop new industrial development sites.The company, which already has a base on Burma Drive, is expanding to meet production and export requirements as part of the Griftdijk development plan and its commitment to Hull and international links.The new 47,000 sq ft facility will include factory, support, welfare and associated ancillary provisions. It will be used for the production of static caravans and mobile homes.It will feature two linear production lines, which the business is unable to implement in its current location due to space constraints. This is said to be the optimal layout as it allows each unit to evolve from a rolling chassis to a finished product as it moves down the line.Ultimate Leisure Homes currently employs about 50 staff and this number is expected to double at the new factory.Other occupiers at Burma Drive include flooring manufacturer Kingspan and bathroom pod maker Walker Modular.
