Refreshed Gateway South plans submitted after six-year delay

Fresh plans to create more than 5,000 jobs and millions of square foot in commercial space near Coventry Airport have been submitted.The Gateway South project is being led by the Coventry and Warwickshire Development Partnership and is expected to cost in the region of £182m.Warwick District Council has been sent the new application after a previous bid was rejected by the government in 2012.If approved, the applicant has said the scheme will create 5,500 jobs and add more than £300m per year to the local economy.The proposal includes 3.6m sq ft of warehouse and production units on land to the south and west of Coventry Airport and Middlemarch Industrial Estate.In 2012 the original application was refused by the secretary of state following the application being ‘called-in’ for determination with the government concluding that such scheme should be made through local plans.The site has now included in the Warwick Local Plan.
