The current contract for Refurbishment work – Framework Lead is projected to end on 08-APR-19 and may be available for retender. UCL Astor College.
This notice refers to the refurbishment of Astor College, an eight-storey student accommodation building, located on the northern end of Charlotte Street in the London Borough of Camden.
The existing building dates back to the 1970’s, with a significant utilitarian character. UCL have developed a proposal to maximise the number of bedrooms on site (from 231 to 290), whilst rationalising and improving the existing layout, resulting in a high specification building that will provide an improved standard of living and will better suit the needs of the residents and staff.
The key aspects of the scheme include:
– An eight storey extension to the rear housing ensuite study bedrooms in a double-loaded corridor arrangement.
– Building over the existing plinth at the front up to 1.5 – 2 storeys, in-line with the adjacent building (Sainsbury’s Wellcome Centre).
РExtending the recessed portion of the front elevation at floors 1 Р6 to unify the fa̤ade and increase the numbers of ensuite bedrooms.
РActivating the street and reinforcing the entrance and fa̤ade on to Charlotte Street.
– Addressing the existing bulk and mass of the building.
РCreating a new fa̤ade onto the adjacent street, Bedford Passage.
