£350m Leeds development set for green light

A £350m Leeds development, which will include a 40-storey residential skyscraper that could become Yorkshire’s tallest building, is set to move forward with approval recommended ahead of a planning committee meeting Commercial Estates Group (CEG), the company behind the landmark Kirkstall Forge regeneration project, is leading the redevelopment of a brownfield site on the South Bank of Leeds.As part of a hybrid planning application, detailed consent is sought for two office buildings measuring a total of about 280,000 sq ft and including potential retail and leisure uses on the ground floor.Outline permission is also sought for a mixed-use development of up to 1.1 million sq ft of residential and business floorspace, as well as potential retail, leisure, hotel, health, education and community uses.The largest of the proposed buildings, a residential tower located between Globe Road and the Leeds-Liverpool canal, would rise up to 40 storeys tall and a maximum height of 142 metres.In total, a maximum of 750 residential units and 750,000 sq ft of grade A office space is proposed.The plans include the demolition of all the existing buildings on the site, with the exception of a listed bridge crossing Hol Beck and the main element of the former Water Lane printworks.
