Garden village plan for barracks to march forward
The initial proposals for up to 3,000 homes to be built on an army barracks in Rutland are set to be published next month.Plans for the land were first revealed by the authority and the Ministry for Defence (MOD) in September 2017 after the barracks had been earmarked for sale in the previous November.The 741-acre site is due to be vacated by the army by 2021.Following initial assessments of the site and early discussions with local communities and interest groups, the authority and the MOD will publish a “high-level” plan in May, inviting public feedback on the proposals.The draft plan will outline aspirations for a new development that includes housing, a commercial zone for business, green space and areas for leisure and recreation, supported by new infrastructure and public services.
