Plans for £65m Birmingham hospital set for green light

A new £65m hospital for NHS and private patients in Birmingham is expected to be given the green light next week.Prime (UK) Developments is seeking permission from Birmingham City Council for the seven-storey building at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site in Mindelsohn Way, Edgbaston.The project, which would result in the demolition of the post graduate building, has been recommended to be approved at a meeting of the authority’s planning committee on Thursday 26 April.If given the green light, the project for the 158,530 sq ft building will also include more than 100 car parking spaces. A total of 150 full-time equivalent jobs will also be created.The plans were first revealed in July 2017 by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and HCA Healthcare UK with the development having space for 138 beds and expected to be completed by 2020.It will treat people over the age of 18 and will increase capacity for NHS patients, providing 72 new beds, a radiotherapy unit and new operating theatres.It will also include 66 private beds, to be owned and run by HCA Healthcare UK.
