Latest Park Hill plans lodged

Plans have been lodged for the third phase of the redevelopment of Sheffield’s iconic Park Hill Estate, which would add student apartments to the scheme.GL Hearn, on behalf of joint applicants Alumno Student Developments and Urban Splash, has submitted full planning and listed building application to Sheffield City Council for works to make the grade II*-listed building suitable for student accommodation.Park Hill, located on a hill above the city’s railway station, is one of the Sheffield’s best-known landmarks.The property was built in 1961 and was one of the first Brutalist buildings in the UK. It was awarded grade II*-listed status in 1998.Urban Splash, which acquired Park Hill in 2004, has successfully completed the first phase of redevelopment, which comprises 260 homes, ten workspaces and the Grace Owen children’s nursery.The company received planning permission for phase two in December, which includes another 200 homes, further workspace and landscaping.The latest phase would comprise 74 student accommodation units in a series of clusters, providing a total of 356 beds.A further 3,767 sq ft of flexible commercial floorspace would be provided, together with car and bicycle parking provision.It has been estimated that the development will cost between £17m and £20m to build, with a workforce of up to 100 employed during construction.When complete it could generate about £2.5m in additional annual spending in Sheffield’s economy.
