Mixed-use redevelopment proposed for former warehouse

Plans have been revealed to convert a former grocer’s warehouse in Sheffield into a mixed-use scheme featuring commercial units and flats.Property developer Ashgate and HLM Architects have submitted plans for the renovation, refurbishment and extension of the Nichols Building on Shalesmoor roundabout.The building will be converted and extended to provide ground floor commercial space and mix of 48 studio, one- and two-bedroomed residential units developed specifically for rental by a professional landlord.The development lies within the Furnace Hill conservation area and steps have been taken by the design team to protect and enhance the heritage of the building. The three-story Victorian frontage that faces onto Shalesmoor and Shepherd Street will be retained, and existing brickwork and sandstone features will be restored.The new complex will be renamed Nichols & Co in honour of the wholesalers who were once housed within the building.
