AMRC parking extension set for approval

Plans to expand the parking provision at the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centres (AMRC) are set to get the go-ahead from councillorsThe university submitted an application to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council for the work in March 2018.The proposal covers an area of currently-undeveloped land to the east of the AMRC Training CentreThe existing parking facilities would be extended to provide an additional 70 spaces, as well as doubling the number of accessible spaces.Total parking capacity is currently 67 standard car spaces with four accessible parking bays and 12 motorcycle bays.The development is designed to help meet demand for additional parking spaces for users and visitors to the AMRC Training Centre facility, reducing the amount of on-street parking in the area.The application will go before the council’s planning board on 31 May and is recommended for approval, subject to conditions.A planning officer’s report prepared for the meeting said the increased parking provision would “provide an adequate short to medium term solution for the existing demand for car parking spaces generated by students and staff of the university”.
