Short description of the contract or purchase(s): Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council supports most schools within the authority with their ICT requirements. Following a review of services offered through their EDIT (Education IT) Services it is looking to set up a framework of connectivity suppliers from which schools can purchase connectivity, network security and internet filtering to support schools in making flexible and reliable choices in relation to their ICT needs.
Currently these schools/academies are connected via a wide-area network with all filtering, security and internet connectivity managed centrally. Given the differing needs and requirements of individual schools it is not always possible to make changes to central systems without impacting on other schools using the service. Therefore the decision has been made to provide the schools with independently controlled access to the internet which can be maintained and administered either by the schools, the service provider or the schools chosen IT management function. For the majority of schools this will be assumed to be the EDIT Services.
