Combined authority backs sports village plans
Plans to create a £20m sports village at the Darlington Arena, which could create more than 200 jobs, have taken a step forward after the Tees Valley Combined Authority pumped £450,000 into the project.Darlington Borough Council and Darlington Mowden Park RFC have proposed a mixed-use development at the site, with 2020 earmarked for completion.The funding from the combined authority will be used to further develop the business case, including the production of detailed feasibility works.The development is part of a wider plan that will aim to attract high-profile sport and music events to the region. The venue, which is home to Darlington Mowden Park Rugby Club, is currently a vital part of Tees Valley’s bid to host fixtures for the Rugby League World Cup in 2021.
