Plans in for £64m Copperas Hill project
Liverpool John Moores University’s plans to transform Copperas Hill into a new student destination have taken a major step forward with the submission of a planning application.Located at the entrance to the Knowledge Quarter and adjacent to Liverpool Lime Street Station, the former Royal Mail Sorting offices closed in 2010. The site has been cleared and is earmarked for a Student Life Building and Sports Building.LJMU is planning to develop the site in two phases as part of a wider masterplan investment across its estate.Phase one at Copperas Hill is scheduled for determination by Liverpool City Council during the summer of 2018 ahead of a proposed opening in the autumn of 2020.The application was submitted on behalf of LJMU by Barton Willmore, which was appointed by Faithful+Gould. Sheppard Robson, Cundall and WSP also helped prepare the application.
