Green light for 12 new Barkway homes

Developers last night got the green light to build 12 homes in Barkway.The reserved matters application for the site south-west of Barkway Social Club, off Cambridge Road, was unanimously approved by North Herts District Council’s planning control committee.Outline planning permission had already been given last June. This reserved matters application related to the appearance and scale of the development.Objectors at the meeting in Letchworth’s Spirella Ballroom included Barkway Parish Council, which among other things said there were not enough parking spaces in the plans for cars – with only three spaces for visitors spread between 12 homes.It was also pointed out that there was no provision for electric vehicle charging points.Barkway Social Club also objected, while noting the need for housing within the village.District council planning officer Melissa Tyler’s recommendation to grant approval was backed by all members of the committee, which was chaired by vice-chairman Councillor Michael Muir in the absence of its chairman Councillor Mike Rice.
