II.2.4) Description of the procurement
CPI would like to acquire a roll to roll system to replace its incumbent equipment. A description of this incumbent equipment is as follows: the roll-to-roll print system has 6 modules, together with a control system and user interface enabling control of the print heads together with control of the roll-to-roll handling.
— Module 1 contains the unwind section for rolls of web on 3 inch cores with a splice table enabling easy interchange of substrate,
— Module 2 contains a bank of four 1 000 pixel print heads, which at the current resolution of 360 DPI equates to a print width of approximately 282 mm,
— Module 3 is the initial UV tack cure of the printed ink, located immediately after the print heads; this requires a UV power of >6 W/cm2, wavelength 350 nm peak (40 nm width, current lamps lead doped),
— Module 4 utilises an extracted IR oven capable of temperatures up to 110 oC. The ovenlength is 73 cm,
— Module 5 provides a full UV cure at 24 W/cm2, 350 nm (40 nm width, current lamps lead doped). This UV module also has a cooled UPW jacket around the UV bulb in order to remove the IR energy,
— Module 6 contains the rewind section where the printed product is wound onto 3 inch cores.
Currently we have to pass every sample through the tool twice. Once for initial print and cure, and then a second time for additional curing. It would be highly desirable (as in cutting the run time in half and eliminating a lot of manual handling) to be able to do this in one pass. To fully mirror the current process this would be an additional UV cure at 24 W/cm2 and additional IR cure at 105 oC and final UV cure of 24 W/cm2. However it is quite possible this could be reduced but that would require some development.

II.2.4) Description of the procurement
CPI currently operates a reel-to-reel Nilpeter MO4/FA4 printing press which has the capability to perform offsetlitho, rotary screen, flexographic and gravure printing processes as well as die cut, lamination and sheeting operations. The multi-process narrow web Nilpeter press is available for development work, prototyping,scale-up and pilot production. It provides a test bed to allow clients to develop intelligent print for a variety of applications such as labels, switches and sensors, flexible packaging, radio frequency identification (RFID) and near field communication (NFC)
There is now a requirement to add further capability with Inkjet technology as per the specification supplied in the tender. This additional inkjet hardware will require the current Nilpeter to be modified in such a way as maintain its current capability whilst further enhancing it with Inkjet technology.
