£1.6m extra earmarked for cinema scheme

An extra £1.6m has been earmarked for a major new cinema and leisure complex which is currently being constructed in Grantham.South Kesteven District Council’s cabinet is due to vote on Thursday 12 July on whether to approve the allocation of the extra funding to the multimillion-pound scheme on St Catherine’s Road.Work started on site in March and the project is set to be completed by December, with the cinema, which will be operated by Savoy, opening in Easter 2019.The cinema’s five screens will accommodate a total of 650 seats. Savoy plans a variety of cinema offerings to suit all audiences, from major blockbuster films to live streaming of events, opera and drama from the National Theatre.The new funding will help pay for the demolition of a section of the council’s offices to create a link between the courtyard and the cinema, the remodelling of the office courtyard, public realm work, a new entrance to the civic suite, and a new office entrance.
