Historic pub gets nod for terrace plans
A Newcastle pub which has been welcoming customers for hundreds of years is to get a new outdoor drinking and dining terrace after a planning application was approved by the city council.The Market Lane Inn and associated banqueting house on Pilgrim Street date back to the 17th and 18th centuries.The site was redeveloped in the early 18th century and started trading as a pub and hotel in the 19th century.Leisure company The Malhotra Group applied to transform the former banqueting house at the rear of the Market Lane Inn, which has fallen into disrepair, into an external courtyard.The first floor will also feature an al fresco dining area with a proposed deli bar serving hot drinks, breakfast, coffee and cake.
