Step forward for office and aparthotel development
Plans to build a nine-storey office and aparthotel development on the fringe of Liverpool’s UNESCO World Heritage Site have taken a major step forward after being recommended for approval. The plot at 50-60 Waterloo Road, bounded by Oil Street and Vandries Street, lies opposite the grade II-listed gates to Victoria and Trafalgar Docks. The Titanic Hotel and the Invisible Wind Factory are also nearby. The application by MBE Construction proposes the development of a nine-storey building featuring almost 5,000 sq ft of office space and six storeys of aparthotel accommodation. The 56 rooms would comprise 21 studios, 16 one-bed rooms, 14 two-bed rooms and five three-bed duplexes. All rooms, excluding one studio on the first floor, would have balconies or terraces, as well as kitchen facilities. The scheme also includes a guest car park with 20 spaces. The application has been recommended for approval ahead of a Liverpool City Council planning meeting next week 7 August 2018.Final approval rests on the completion of a section 106 agreement to secure £15,000 towards an area wide masterplan to review parking and servicing infrastructure in the surrounding streets.
