Waste facility to be built in Mid Wales despite opposition

An application to build a new waste recycling facility and a business park has been passed.Locals put in a number of objections to the development near to the A483 in Abermule, just north of Newtown, however they fell on deaf ears as Powys County Council’s planning committee passed the application.The full application was for the waste facility, and the application was for outline planning for the business park.The development will now take place on land that was purchased from the Welsh Government.Locals were unhappy the land was going to be used as waste facility, and expressed concerns on noise disturbance, smell issues and the impact it will have on the Abermule Hotel and other tourism businesses.Others have said that there is issues around surface drainage water, the roof not being used for solar power and about its sustainability.Development works are likely to start early in 2019 with the council intending to develop the park in a number of phases.The six businesses units planned for the site will be for local businesses to establish themselves and expand while the recycling bulking facility will be for materials that are collected from households and will be bulked up at site before being transported to re-processors.
