Green light tipped for £275m landmark scheme

A £275m scheme to build more than 1,000 homes and two landmark towers in Birmingham has been recommended for approval next week.Orchidtame is seeking permission from Birmingham City Council for the development at the former Monaco House site in Bristol Street.The application includes 11 blocks ranging between five and ten storeys plus two towers 29 and 26 storeys high to include 1,009 flats.The proposal also includes a 7,588 sq ft residential hub and 16,285 sq ft of retail/ commercial space.If approved at a meeting of the authority’s planning committee on Thursday 16 August, a total of 335 underground car parking spaces will also be created.The application was submitted to the council by MCR Property Group in December. Construction is expected to start at the end of 2018, if planning permission if granted, and is estimated to be completed in 2023.Once completed, the units would be sold via Regency Residential, MCR Property Group’s residential arm.Plans for the propped development were first revealed in May.
