Boost for Congleton as £75m bypass approved
A new £75m bypass in Congleton has been given the go-ahead.The Department for Transport has approved the route and will provide £45m towards the project, which has been designed to save drivers, on average, seven minutes per journey.It will involve a 3.5km road being connected to the A534 west of Congleton and the A536 to the north of the town, benefitting about 17,000 motorists alone. It will also directly support more than 1,000 new homes and will open up 23 acres of business land by 2035.Cyclists will also get a better link around Congleton as a cycleway and path will be built alongside the road.The works will start in October and end in 2020. Cheshire East is providing £9.63m, with £20.8m coming from private developers.
