Mixed-use development recommended for Bristol arena site
A mixed-use development, including a five star hotel, conference centre, housing and commercial space, has been recommended for the Temple Island site in Bristol with plans for an arena scrapped.Bristol City Council’s Cabinet is to discuss the proposal on 4 September 2018.Officers are recommending the council explore the alternative scheme on the site with potential partners and to develop plans for further discussion.Mixed-used proposals have been put forward by Legal & General, which has previously invested £240m in the surrounding Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone area.The report to cabinet also recommends putting together a business case for the £53m in public funds earmarked for the proposed arena to other schemes in Bristol, including housing and transport infrastructure.
