Plans in for Science Central apartment scheme

Plans to build a private rented sector (PRS) residential scheme featuring 179 apartments as part of Newcastle’s wider Science Central development have been submitted to the city council.The detailed proposals were lodged by St James Boulevard Developments for a site to the south of Heber Street.The plot benefits from outline planning permission granted as part of the Science Central Masterplan in 2012.Other developments included in the Science Central project include employment, university, leisure and retail space, student accommodation, a bike showroom, energy centre and a multi-storey car park.The residential development will comprise a mix of studios, as well as one-, two- and three-bed flats.The L-shaped building will rise to 13 storeys and will also include a lobby and cycle spaces.A planning statement prepared by Lichfields on behalf of St James Boulevard Developments said the proposals would have “substantial economic benefits” and would create jobs, increase spending in the local economy and generate council tax.
