Council to consider plans for tower block site regeneration

The first phase of work to redevelop the site of three tower blocks and derelict highways depot are set to be discussed by Calderdale Council’s cabinet later today (3 September 2018).Calderdale Council and Together Housing are working on the transformation of the Beech Hill area as part of the Calderdale Together Investment Partnership.The partnership aims to build up to 650 affordable homes for rent and ownership over the next five years, including new homes at the Beech Hill site and across Calderdale.The plan for phase one of the Beech Hill redevelopment is to build more than 100 new homes, following the demolition of the three empty tower blocks and the council’s former derelict highways depot on the site.The council is aiming to secure about £2.2m from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to contribute to the phase one demolition and infrastructure works. So far, £1.4m has already been confirmed and the council will seek approval from the combined authority for the remaining £797,000 later this year.The Cabinet will be asked to recommend to Full Council to allocate the £1.4m from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to Together Housing, which is responsible for the works on site.In August, specialist enabling works contractor Rhodar was awarded the £6m contract to demolish the three 18-storey tower blocks on the Beech Hill estate site.
