Consultation over huge residential and employment schemes launches

A six-week public consultation on plans for approximately 6,000 homes and a massive employment scheme will begin today.Birmingham City Council is seeking people’s views on the content of its Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) for the Langley Sustainable Urban Extension (SUE) and Peddimore Employment development in Sutton Coldfield.Both sites were identified for development in the Birmingham Development Plan in 2017, and are key parts of the city’s growth strategy.The authority is seeking people’s views on the content of the SPDs so they can then be used to determine future planning applications on the sites.Langley SUE is identified for approximately 6,000 homes, and the SPD will set out an approach to create sustainable communities as part of developing a new place in the city.With a focus on family accommodation, the council has said the homes on the site will be supported by three primary schools, a secondary school, health services, major green corridors, sports provision, and shopping and other facilities.Later this year, the city council’s development partner for the first phase of Peddimore, IM Properties, will be consulting locally on the detail of its proposals for the employment estate.IM Properties are starting discussions with the communities about Peddimore, with a planning application expected later this year.The consortium of developers at Langley will soon be discussing their proposals with the public, with plans expected to be submitted in 2019.
