Plans in for 220-apartment scheme

Plans have been lodged for the construction of a new mixed-use building featuring more than 220 flats on a site in Kelham Island, Sheffield, currently occupied by industrial premises and student accommodation, adjacent to a listed building.AAD Architects, on behalf of MSD Ltd, has submitted a full planning application for a site off Penistone Rd.The development land, located adjacent to the grade II*-listed Globe Works building (pictured) and grade II-listed Cornish Works, is currently occupied by Namsbury Engineering, Eurofab and the Rutland House student accommodation scheme. Together, the development sites would be known as Saint Philips House.Planning consent is sought for the demolition of the existing buildings and construction of a new development of between five and 11 storeys featuring private residential accommodation and commercial space.A total of 228 apartments would be created, with a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units. About 2,600 sq ft of commercial space would be provided on the ground floor.The proposed development would also include a courtyard, parking for cars and bicycles and a biomass boiler in the basement.
