Have your say on the Kirkcaldy waterfront regeneration

One of Kirkcaldy’s greatest assets is the views over the Forth. Work is under way to deliver a £1.4m Council-funded regeneration project with construction due to start in spring 2019.Fife Council has developed a proposal with Kirkcaldy Waterfront group, the Kirkcaldy’s Ambitions Partnership and Kirkcaldy 4 All to better connect the waterfront and the town centre. Feedback on it from local residents and businesses will help to shape the project’s planning application that will be submitted later in 2018.Over time, Kirkcaldy town centre has turned its back on the coastline. This regeneration project aims to improve connections between the High Street and the waterfront by changing the four-lane dual carriageway to a standard two-lane road, improving pedestrian crossings, adding more on-street parking near the leisure centre and adding features to the spaces around the buildings and waterfront that encourage more use of the outdoor space and more social interaction.The streetscape will also be improved to make the area between the High Street and the waterfront more inviting. Natural stone finishes would be used to match the existing streetscape at Redburn Wynd, Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre and Tolbooth Street. There would be more street furniture, planting and better signage to make the area more attractive.Fife Council is welcoming feedback on these proposals, which are available to view online at www.fifedirect.org.uk/waterfront until 8th October 2018. Project staff will be on hand in Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre on Wednesday 3rd (2pm – 5pm) and Thursday 4th October (4pm – 7pm) for those who would like to view the design proposals and discuss them in more detail.
