Major uni building to be knocked down for £40m scheme
A bid to demolish a building at Staffordshire University to make way for a £40m development has been given the green light.The university has been granted permission by Stoke-on-Trent City Council to knock down the Brindley Building in Leek Road.The four-storey higher education building used for staff offices and teaching space. It will be replaced with a new development with space for apprentices, a fod court and a café.The university announced in January that it had secured £8m funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England’s Catalyst Fund towards the cost of the landmark project.A full planning application for the new Catalyst Building is set to be submitted to the council in October with a scheduled start date of May 2019.
