300 homes planned for former sewage works site
Almost 300 homes could be built on a former sewage site in Birmingham, according to newly published plans.Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust is behind the bid for the old Yardley Sewage Works, Cole Hall Lane, in the Shard End area of Birmingham.The application is for 298 homes on the 32.8-acre site.The sewage works was present on the site from the 1910s until it ceased operation in the 1970s.The application has said that upon closure of the works, it is understood that approximately 18,000m3 of sludge was placed in a mound in the south of the site but it spontaneously combusted in 1978.Birmingham City Council is set to make a final decision on the application in the coming months.
